15 suites and a family that has been here a long time.
My father planted the trees
Twenty years ago there was nothing on this land.
My father planted more than three hundred palm trees here, before there was a hotel for them to shade. People thought it was a strange thing to do with a piece of ground by the sea.
Today those trees are the reason there is shade on this beach at two in the afternoon in August. They are the reason the grass underneath stays green. They are the reason the place is called La Palma.
What it is now
15 suites. That is all, and that is on purpose. Rooms, bungalows and suites, in seven types, all of them a short walk from the water.
I run it. I am here most days, and if something is wrong I would rather you tell me than write it afterwards. There is no reception desk with a queue and no manager sitting in an office somewhere else.
The beach is in front of the suites
You walk out and you are on it. No road to cross, no path through another hotel, no shuttle bus. Every sunbed and umbrella is yours if you are staying with us. All of them, not the front row.
A river comes down from the mountains, runs past the restaurant and into the sea. Where they meet, the water is cold on one side and warm on the other. Most people find it by accident on the first morning and bring everyone back to it on the second.
The food is ours before it is yours
A few kilometres inland we have a farm. Olive trees, avocados, and sheep that live free on the mountains and come down a few times a week for feed and water.
The oil on your bread comes off those trees. The lamb on the grill comes off that mountain. In the morning I go out with a speargun, and some of the fish on the menu is what I bring back.
I do not cook. Somebody better than me does that. But I know where all of it came from, because most of it came from us. The restaurant is on the sand and it is open to everyone, not only people staying here.
At the end of every meal, ice cream arrives that nobody ordered. It is not on the bill.

What we do not have
There is no pool. There is a sea about forty steps away.
There is no entertainment programme, no animator and no schedule on a board. The beach is there, the river is there, the village is a short walk. You wander, you swim, you eat, you come back. That is the whole plan.
If you want a resort with four restaurants and a lazy river, we are the wrong place, and we would rather say so now than have you find out on the second day.
